Temporary Works: Temporary Structures

What is this Site about?

We specialize in resolving a very specific problem where limitations of access for temporary structures impose a penalty in costs and or reduction of available headroom for permanent structures.

See diagrams to the right.

Why Temporary Works?

Wherever a requirement arises that say a loadbearing wall is removed from within an existing building, it is necessary to construct a replacement structure. This usually takes shape of a beam or a multiple of beams (typically made out of steel or concrete).

Part of this process is installation of temporary structures. Temporary structures support the existing (remaining) loadbearing wall while the designated section is being removed and the permanent structures installed.

These temporary structures have their own physical implications on the resulting layouts of permanent structures. More often than not, to the Clients' or their Architects' displeasure, these implications are not properly considered in good time before the start of physical building works.

Initial Problems

Problems

Various problems. For example, in order to achieve the desired headroom in newly created spaces, temporary needles have to be set at a high level, where they will often clash with rooms above, whether or not these belong to the same owner or whether these spaces were intended to be a part of the works.

More Problems

Some More Problems

Want more problems? If the spaces above belong to a different owner, needles cannot be installed there so they push the temporary works down and thus reduce permanent headroom. If the spaces below belong to different owner, it may not be possible to create any temporary foundations.
